How is Charmed Feminist?

Power
In Charmed, the Halliwell sisters all possess great powers that they are able to use to defend themselves and others. By providing the female leads these abilities, this show puts the women in control of their own faith, rather than the damsel in distress.

Another way that Charmed furthers it's feminiest message is through the storylines found in the show. Throughout the show there is an almost constant inversion of the damsel in distress troupe. This inversion is most clearly seen in "Happily Ever After" from Season Five, where the sisters are forced into fairy tale storylines. Piper is cast in the role of Red Riding Hood and is able to save herself from the wolf, without the use of a man.

Another way that Charmed provides a feminist message, perhaps the main way, is through the use of three strong female characters who are able to show their sensual, sexy sides and still be able to save the world on a weekly basis. Through these characters, Charmed shows that it is possible to be both beautiful and strong.
Finally, as was seen throughout the pages on this website, Charmed uses Wicca and the Triquetra in order to highlight that the sisters are not only strong individuals, they are also a collective power. This show highlights the importance of relationships, not just with men, but with each other as women and sisters.
